Council Set to Hire Police Chief

The Jefferson City Council is scheduled to hire its new police chief at the Tuesday, March 3, 2020, special Council Meeting. The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Almost 20 applicants have applied for the job, and council was asked by former Mayor Bubba Haggard to create a list of 2-3 names they’d like to interview. Mayor Pro Tem Victor Perot will oversee the meeting and the hiring process.

A list of interviewees has not been made available at this time.

Racial Profiling Report

Interim Police Chief Jason Carroll will present the Police Department’s 2019 Racial Profiling Report prior to the interviews.

The report, attached below, shows City Officers made 1,417 stops from January 1-December 31, 2019. A written report is required to submit an annual report to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and to the governing body of the agency.
