County, City, and School officials met today to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak and encourage residents to not panic.

“Marion County Government is operating as usual with few exceptions,” Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur said in a written statement. “If you are sick or have been around someone who has been sick please do not congregate publicly, wash your hands frequently and sanitize often.”

“I am issuing no order attempting to restrict any events at this time.,” LaFleur wrote.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott declared all 254 counties in a state of disaster in order to be able to swiftly prosecute price gouging and allows federal funding to come to the state.

“The situation is very fluid and continues to change almost hourly,” LaFleur wrote. “I am monitoring the situation very closely and I’m in close contact with my counterparts in counties that touch ours.

“If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact my office at 903-665-3261,” he wrote.
