Work continued Tuesday morning on preparing the old Humble Oil Gas Station to be moved from the corner of Austin and Polk streets. Harold Nix owns the building and the property and is moving the building across the river to the corner of Polk Street/FM134 and Bayou Street.
According to Duke DeWare, the station will be fully restored once it’s moved. DeWare says the building was designed by John Staub in 1929, Staub designed a number of buildings in Houston.
Plans for the lot have not been finalized, according to DeWare. DeWare said ideas have included a two-story building with balconies and apartments above, and retail below.
