Pardi Gras  This Weekend

The Front Porch, EmBear’s Vintage, and the Jefferson Outpost will be teaming up for “Pardi Gras 2021” on Saturday in downtown Jefferson. There will be a Bead-Mobile traveling up and down Polk Street hourly with beads and treats starting at noon. Other Mardi Gras activities include:

• Mardi Gras Express: Celebrate Mardi Gras aboard the Mardi Gras Express. The historic depot will be decorated in Mardi Gras with Zydeco music playing with lots of beads for our patrons. About half-way through the train ride, you will come upon our Gunboat with Mardi Gras revelers shooting confetti at the train and throwing Mardi Gras beads to the passengers.

• 4th Annual Mardi Gras in the Courtyard: Made in the Shade Boutique is hosting a Fat Tuesday celebration you’re not soon to forget from 11a-5p. Chad, the Crawfish man, will be selling crawfish, shrimp, sausage, and the fixis on Friday and Saturday starting at 11 a.m.Red Dirt Roosters will be providing musical entertainment.

• Back to the 80’s Party, aturday, at Auntie Skinner’s is bringing the ghosts of Mardi Gras’ past out. Join them February 6th for an 80’s Mardi Gras Party! The guys from 8-Track will be starting at 9pm and play till 1 am.

2nd Annual Antique Quilt Exhibit

The Jefferson historical Society and Museum will present their 2nd Annual Vintage Quilt show Monday-Sunday, February 8-14th. Beautiful antique quilts, many original to Marion County, will be on display in the museum’s second floor gallery. The show is included in the regular admission price to the museum, located at 223 W. Austin St.

Little League Basketball Tips Off February 13

Jefferson Little League Basketball will be playing games starting at 8 a.m. February 13 at the Jefferson Junior High School Gymnasium. First and 2nd grade Girls will play at 8 and 1st and 2nd grade Boys at 8:30. Third and 4th grade Girls will play at 9 a.m. and 3rd and 4th grade Boys will play at 11:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited to come out and support these young Jefferson athletes.

SBDC Opens Jefferson Office

The Small Business Development Center.  Our official office is located in Longview, however, we recently opened a field office in Jefferson. 

We help entrepreneurs who are interested in starting a business in many ways.  We have experience and resources to help them get qualified for business loans by helping them build business plans, and financial projections.  We also help existing businesses pivot in changing times.  We have helped many businesses with creating websites, or update existing websites to attract more customers.  We offer assistance in Bookkeeping, and many other areas of starting &/or managing a business to improve success rates.   As a government & university funded organization, our services are no charge to our clients.

Around Texas with Chancellor John Sharp premiers Feb. 4

BRYAN/ COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A new television show, Around Texas with Chancellor John Sharp, premiers Feb. 4 on KAMU-TV and will be offered to other public television affiliates across the state, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make Texas like no other state in the country.

The complete first season includes 12 episodes that will be available on The Texas A&M University System’s YouTube page after each episode airs on KAMU-TV at 7 p.m. every Thursday. The 28-minute program provides fresh insight on the Texas A&M System, which has grown to touch the lives of almost every Texan, every day, one way or another.
