Era S. Tyson of Jefferson, Texas passed away peacefully in Whispering Pines Nursing Home in Longview on May 26, 2021, at the age of 95. He was born in 1925, in Ness City, Kansas to Era M. Tyson and Bertha L. (Kellenberger) Tyson.
In his younger years, Mr. Tyson spent time in Kansas and Texas, often helping his dad in his mechanic shop. He proudly joined the United States Navy in 1943 at 18 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Seabee Electrician Third Class. He worked as a mechanic lineman until his retirement.
In 1952, he married his sweetheart, Velda Kelley. Era would say his proudest family moments were marrying the love his life and when his children were born. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, and tinkering around the yard.
Mr. Tyson was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Kerry Phalen Tyson and Clarice Tyson; brother, Sam Tyson; and sister, Clarice Shields.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Velda Tyson; sons, Henry Tyson and wife Nina and Don Tyson and wife Bobbie; daughters, Karyn Tyson and Cindy Whitehead and husband Bernard; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Lake O’ The Pines Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Tim Shirley.
