Pct. 1 Town Hall slated
A Precinct 1 Town Hall meeting is being held at 6p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Mims Volunteer Fire Department, 9902 FM 729, Avinger. Pct. 1 Commissioner JR Ashley called the Town Hall meeting.
The meeting is to Discuss and Gather Information on the formation of a County Assistance District for Marion County.
Ashley has invited Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur to attend and speak. A quorum of Marion County Commissioners is not expected and no decisions or votes will be taken.

Teenager drowns at LOP
A young man visiting his grandfather accidentally drowned Saturday while swimming at Lake O’the Pines.
The 16-year-old was not identified by name to the public due to his age. The young man lived in Oklahoma according to reports.
“Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens stationed in Marion County and Marion County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of a drowning at Lake O’ the Pines Saturday,” Marion County Sheriff Capps said. “On arrival, the body of a 16-year-old male had already been located and removed from the water. The victim was pronounced dead by the Justice of the Peace and his body has been sent for an autopsy.”
The incident was reported to the Sheriff’s office around 11:30 a.m.
“Game wardens believe he may have hit his head and drowned,” Capps said.
