Artist opens storefront

By Austin Lewter

A local photographer has opened a storefront in downtown Jefferson.

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce welcomed Hollis Shadden Photography and Custom Framing to its official membership over the weekend with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Shadden is a longtime Jefferson resident and former JPD Chief of Police who has been practicing photography professionally for almost 40 years.

“I started doing photography on the side in 1982,” Shadden said. “Since then I’ve photographed more than 200 weddings… I’ve done about every form of photography there is… there were a lot of glamour shots back in the 90s when those were popular. I’ve shot adver tising photos, families, seniors… I’ve done a little bit of everything.”

Located at 118 Vale Street, Hollis Shadden Photography and Custom Framing is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.; Thursday and Friday noon- 8 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; and Sunday afternoons.

Shadden offers an array of custom framing options done in-house.

“Framing is something I’ve always enjoyed,” Shadden said. “Jefferson had a picture framer for years. His name was Larry Johnson. He was a friend of mine and I’d help him with projects over the years. Since his passing, I purchased all his equipment and intend to carry on his legacy of craftsmanship.”

Framing options go beyond the traditional pictures on the wall.

“We can do shadow boxes and custom framing,” Shadden said. “We can frame anything.”

The new business includes a fully functional photo studio and gallery with Shadden’s framed works on the wall.

“As far as art currently available to buy,” Shadden said. “We have a lot of nature shots. Local nature shots— Caddo Lake and the surrounding area. But we also have people shots and Jefferson shots available.”

Shadden also offers vintage prints and post cards.

“I think we are filling a need in Jefferson and adding to the retail community,” Shadden said. “If half the people bring me the framing jobs who have said they would; we will be plenty busy.”
