Jefferson Pro Rodeo Starts

The Jefferson Pro Rodeo returns today and tomorrow at the Jefferson Livestock Association Arena on Highway 49 East. The fun begins at 7:30p each night and proceeds benefitting the Becca Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and kids 3 and under get in free. Events include mutton bustin, bareback bronc, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, break-a-way roping, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.  A kids calf scramble will be held for those 10 and under along with a scholarship calf scramble for high school aged students. 

Two raffles are being held with tickets available at the rodeo. For the avid hunter, one raffle is for a Savage 110 APEX Predator XP 308 Winchester rifle with a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12 X 44 MM scope. The second raffle is for two tickets to the LSU versus Texas A and M football fame at Tiger stadium, Saturday, November 27 plus one night’s stay at the local Holiday Inn. Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. Drawing will be held October 9.

Bob Avery Memorial Fly-In

The Marion County  Cypress River Airport 24F annual Fly-In this year is being dedicated to Bob Avery.

The event will take place starting at 10 a.m.-2 p.m. September 25, at the Airport off FM 134.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Aviator’s Airport Diner will be open for their “One Day a Year” and will have BBQ Brisket Plate w/Drink and Dessert. Adults $15, Child $8. 

Besides airplanes there will also be classic cars and motorcycles on display.

Football, Food Trucks

September 25 will be a day full of fun in Jefferson! To start off the day, The Krewe of Hebe will be hosting an open Kayak Race on Big Cypress Bayou at the boat ramp.

Shortly After the food trucks will arrive Downtown and set up in the parking lot near Auntie Skinners in the alleyway! College football games will be shown all day on the huge projector screen in the alley, as well.

Proceeds from this event will benefit Krewe of Hebe.

MC Fair Fundraiser

It’s Taco Tuesday and the Marion County Fair is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Richard Baker Scholarship fund.

Three tacos and a drink will be available for $5 starting at 5p at the Kellyville Community Center. Orders can be picked up Brookshire’s parking lot starting at 6p for pre-orders. National Night Out

The 5th Annual National Night Out  in Jefferson will be 5:30-8:30p October 5, 2021, at the Jefferson Transportation and Visitors Center. Kids can have their picture taken with first responders while sitting in a helicopter, fire engine, ambulance or patrol car. There will be food, games, a car bash, face and nail painting, kid’s bike and scooter games, and more! The event is free and open to the public.

Senior Adult Game Day

First Baptist Church, Jefferson, will be starting a Senior Adult Game Day on the last Wednesday of every month starting September 29. Bingo, games and a soup and sandwich lunch is on this month’s agenda. The games begin at 10 a.m. at the Church.

More Livestream Sports Coming!

The Jefferson Jimplecute and Marion County Herald tested a livestream of the District Opening Volleyball game against Waskom Tuesday night. We’re working on getting things up and going and hope to keep this going at Home Games.

If you’re interested in helping out or sponsoring a player or the game, let us know! Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Jefferson Athletic Booster Club. Prices start at $25 for parent ads and are displayed on a rotating basis throughout the game.

JAWGC Selling Poinsettias

The Holidays are Coming!  The Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club of Jefferson will be selling red, pink, and white poinsettias between now and September 27th.  Cost per plant will be $15.00. Orders of five or more will receive $5.00 off the total order. Flyers are being distributed around town and may also be picked up at the Excelsior Hotel lobby.  Plan ahead by pre-ordering these beautiful holiday plants.  All proceeds will benefit the JAWGC.  

Taste of Jefferson vendors needed

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce is seeking participants for their annual Taste of Jefferson event on October 17.
