Local man dies in motorcycle accident

Jefferson’s beloved mailman, John Brooks, was killed on Tuesday afternoon, November 16, in a motorcycle accident on FM 248.

According to Texas DPS, preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound on FM 248. A 1998 dodge Ram was traveling northbound on FM 248. The Dodge failed to yield the right-of-way to the Harley-Davidson as it was turning left onto a county road.

The operator of the Harley-Davidson, John Brooks, 58, of Jefferson, died at the scene. Arrangements are pending.

The driver of the Dodge, Sam Jackson, 59, of Jefferson, was taken to an area hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

Another motorcycle accident, this time on FM 729 on November 13, claimed the life of Michael Moore of Longview.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2002 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle was traveling westbound on FM 729. For an as yet undermined reason, the Harley-Davidson left the roadway and struck a pole.

 The operator of the motorcycle, Michael Moore, 58, of Longview, died at the scene. 

Both crashes remain under investigation and no additional information is currently available.
