Commisioners approve subdivision plat

Staff Reports

Moon Lake Estates is back on track making progress as Commissioners approved both their preliminary subdivision plat and a request by Eastern Marion County Water (EMC) for a waterline easement along MCR 3200, during their regular meeting on Monday.

The new waterline, will run along the south side of MCR 3200 for approximately 5,000 feet. EMC opted to supply the new subdivision with water after the City of Jefferson chose not to upgrade their existing water line in the area. The subdivision is set to have approximately 100 homes, each over $100,000 in value, as well as some commercial locations.

All of the MC solid waste dump sites will not operate from noon until 4p.m. on Saturdays starting January 1 after Commissioners approved the hours change for Pct. 4. Other hours were not changed. Currently the sites are open from noon until 5p.m.

Tim Cariker will continue to be the Marion County Indigent Defense Attorney for 2021, to the tune of $69,00 in salary a year. Previously the duties, and costs, were split between two attorney’s. Cariker has been licensed by the State Bar since May 1999.

On his application, Cariker wrote, “I have reduced the sole attorney fee. My reason for doing this was to leave more money in the budget for the conflict attorney. As the sole attorney in 2021, I believe there were less than five cases involving legal conflicts, however, there were at least five involving personality conflicts that need to be referred over to the other attorney.”

Oscar Lloyd II, was appointed the Indigent Conflict Attorney for 2021. He’s been licensed by the State Bar since 1984. Lloyd’s salary is based upon the County’s Attorney Fee Schedule and not a set salary per month.

George Otstott was appointed the Northeast Texas Regional Water Board Region D representative for Marion County. Otstott is currently the City’s representative to NETWMD and said he was happy to take up this for the County as part of his duties representing the best water interests for residents of Marion County .

Commissioners are still reviewing and grading the applications received to name an administrator for the funds they are receiving from the American Rescue Plan Act. They intended to name an administrator on Wednesday, but were  not finished reviewing the submissions. They received three applications, each of over 100 pages in length. The applications must be reviewed and scored according to a schedule provided by the federal government.
