The newest edition of Discover Jefferson & Marion County, the official visitors guide for the City of Jefferson, is now available! It covers January-March 2022. Christmas Concert
Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host a Christmas Concert at 7p.m. today featuring Kermit Poling and the West Edge String Quartet. Admission is free and the concert is jointly sponsored by the Marshall Symphony Orchestra.
Brushy Creek Christmas
It’s Christmas at the Brushy Creek camping site this weekend! This is the second time for this event which features both free camping, provided one creates an “elaborately lit and decorated campsite,” and a drive-through tour.
“The purpose of this free camping weekend is to enhance our community holiday offerings by providing a Christmas light drive-through event in the campground,” the FOLTP said online. “The event is also a fundraiser for the Friends of Lake O’ The Pines organization. Donations will be graciously accepted by any attendees and your donation may be tax deductible.”

MCDCSCO Meets Monday
The Marion County Diversified Civic and Social Concern Organization, MCDCSCO, was formed to further educationally opportunities for our youth. Your participation in our group by joining the organization has made college scholarships possible for deserving Marion County students through your membership fee fundraisers and contributions. As many of you know our President and founder, has gone home to be with the Lord. We as Members would like to continue this awesome tradition. The Animal Protection League will be in Jefferson from 10a-2p December 13 at the corner of Henderson and Polk streets. APL offers low cost pet spay/neuter and vaccination services. Spay/Neuter services are by appointment only. APL makes a monthly trip to Jefferson. Their next visit will be January 10. For more information call 903-753-7387.
Remembering ‘The Love of Christ’
Women at the Well of Encouragement (WATWOE) will host its Annual Christmas Gala and Toy Give-A-Way December 18, 2021, starting 6:00 p.m. at Jefferson Visitor/Tourism Building. The local faith-based ministry is seeking new toy donations that will enable children to enjoy indoor and outdoor activities.

Tickets to attend the Christmas Gala are $10.00 and may be purchased at Graham Financial Services. Children under 12 may attend free with an adult.

Christmas Blanket & Sock Drive
FRESH is accepting donations of new blankets and socks which will be presented to our local elders in the nursing facilities here in Jefferson on December 19. Help us be of good cheer and give back in this holiday season. Donations will be accepted until December 17th. Items can be dropped off at Riverside Bank, 371 S. Walcott, or with any FRESH member. Museum Seeking Docents
The Jefferson Historical Museum is seeking one or two volunteer docent/operators for showing and operating the fabulous R.D. Moses Model Railroad exhibit to Museum visitors. This would entail being “on-call” to operate the model railroad at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on a designated week day as scheduled in advance. The volunteers would be trained to operate the model railroad by the Jefferson and Cypress Bayou Model Railroad Club who has the responsibility of maintaining and operating the model railroad for the Museum. This volunteer activity will give one the opportunity to meet and greet visitors to Jefferson and the joy of “playing” with model trains. If interested, please contact the Museum. 903-665-2775.”
Making Trauma ‘Bearable’
The Christmas Trees at Hollis Shadden’s Studio on Vale Street are decorated with teddy bears by Big Cypress Corvettes. They are accepting teddy bear sponsors for $10. After Christmas the bears will be donated to local Law Enforcement to carry in their patrol cars and give to children who they encounter in traumatic situations.
TC Lindsey & Co General Store Re-opens
Despite rumors to the contrary, the T.C. Lindsey & Co General Store in Jonesville is still operating. A post, says “our doors are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 to 4pm except we will be closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Welcome back to our almost 175 year old business after months of upgrades, improvements, rewiring, and making our store accessible to everyone. We are still replacing things that had to be removed for rewiring, so please excuse our continual work to put things back in order. Shelves are being restocked and we are ready to go! Come see us!”
