Lady Bulldogs open district Friday

The Jefferson Lady Bulldog basketball team is 10-8 on the year going into their district opener against Arp tonight on the road. 

The majority of the Lady Dawg losses have come in tournament play at the hands of bigger schools. 

They finished the Harleton Tournament 1-2 last weekend with losses to Gladewater 58-39 and Hughes Springs 55-49. 

Their one win in Harleton was against Ore City with a 63-14 final. 

Kristin Thomas led the attack against the Lady Rebels with 22 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block. 

Da’Navia Thomas was close behind with 17 points, five rebounds, six steals and one assist. 

Jordyn Davidson offered 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals. 

TJ Hood scored six points. 

Jaida Bray and Lyanna Barnett each scored one point a piece. 

The Lady Dawgs went to the Harleton Tourney coming off a 56-35 win over Beckville on December 8. 

Da’Navia Thomas led the way in that match with 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists and four steals. 

Hood chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. 

Davidson had nine points, two rebounds, an assist and five steals. 

Bray scored three points and Kristen Thomas scored one.  

The Lady Dawgs opened the month with a 2-3 finish at the McCleod Tournament December 2-4. 

Losses there were to Hooks (47-42), Saltillo (57-47) and Bloomburg (52-47). 

Their first tourney in McCleod came with a 42-26 final over Redwater. 

Da’Navia Thomas led the team with 16 points, eight rebounds, an assist and six steals. 

Kristen Thomas was close behind with 13 points and ten rebounds. 

Hood scored five points, Davidson scored four points and Bray scored three points. 

A second win came with a 54-37 win over Redwater. 

Da’Navia led the attack there, as well, with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. 

Kristen Thomas and Davidson each scored 12 points apiece. Barnett scored eight points and Hood scored five. 

Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. tonight in Arp. 

The Lady Tigers are 2-7 coming off a 43-6 loss to Neches. 

The Lady Bulldogs take to the road again Tuesday night against Elysian Fields. 

Their next home game will be at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve against Waskom.
