The City of Jefferson held a special meeting Tuesday night to approve participating in the February Winter Weather DR-4586 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program administered by Texas Department of Emergency Management.

Traylor and Associates will be assisting the City in submitting the grant application and was on hand to answer questions.

Wesley Traylor suggested the City submit seven separate applications to give them the best chance of obtaining an overall grant.

Traylor suggested the city submit for generators at the seven lift stations around town. The total of the grant applications is for $900,000 with additional $300,000 matching from City reserve funds.

The grant is a 75-25 shared cost grant but Traylor indicated the City could use funds from the American Rescue Plan grant if they so choose.

Council approved the resolution to participate 5-0. Ward 3 Alderman Richard Turner was absent from the meeting.

Council will meet in regular session at 5:30p.m. this Tuesday at the Transportation Center.

JEDCO was originally scheduled to also meet last Tuesday, but did not due to the lack of a quorum. They will meet again on Feburary 8.
