Office Closures

All City and County offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5 for Labor Day. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Celebrate

1852 on Austin 1st Anniversary Celebration and Ribbon Cutting at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at 1852 on Austin located at 124 E. Austin Street. Join us for a cake reception as the community celebrates a successful first year as a restaurant and live music venue in historic downtown Jefferson.

VFW Fish Fry

The Jefferson chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their monthly First Saturday Fish Fry this weekend. 

Set for 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation. 

Dessert will be available for $1. 

Lunch can be enjoyed dine-in or carryout from the Post at 1399 US-59, Jefferson. 

Are donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post. 

Car Show

Old Crows Car Club will hold a Cruise In Car Show from 5-9p Sept 2 at Johnson’s Rust Ranch, 12689 FM 729.

Outdoors Oasis

Heritage Baptist Church will hold their 2nd Annual East Texas Outdoorsman Oasis starting at 5p.m. at the church. Darren Barnett with Sixth Day Outdoor Ministries is the guest speaker. JAAC Breakfast

Jefferson Adopt-A-Cop is sponsoring their 2nd Annual Dual Sports Adventure Ride at 8a Thursday, September 8 at the Diamond Don Event Center. The breakfast and ride is a fundraiser to help law enforcement officers in Marion County pay for required equipment. Last year $1,833 was raised at the event. All street legal modern dual sport bikes are welcome.

MCDCSCO

Marion County Diversified Civil and Social Concern Organization will meet the September 6 at 5.30 p.m. at the Jefferson Community Center. Calling all members, and those that would like to become member’s to attend.

Ag Program

Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension will be hosting an in-person program for Improving Forage Management on September 13th, 2022, from 4-7p.m.. Location: Kellyville Community Center; 130 Kelly Park Rd. Jefferson, TX 75657

Topics covered include: “Strategies to Improve Pasture Stands & Winter Forage Options” ~ Tyler Jordan, “Methods to Improve Soil Health and Fertility for Greater Stand Resilience and Yield” ~ Mary Derting. Please register by September 12, 2022.

Dessert Contest

Jefferson’s Inaugural Dessert Contest will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church, 703 Main Street. 

Categories include Best Overall Dessert, Most Creative, Most Decadent, and Healthiest Choice. Music provided by Mr. J’s DJ. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children under 12, and $10 if you bring a dessert for the competition. Join us for a family friendly and sweet community celebration. Run for the Prize

Diamond Don Event Center has a great Church Service planned during DDMX 20th on September 11. Steve Wise and the Gospel Girls will headline the event at 7:30 AM in the Pavilion. Please plan to attend. Open to the public, so Jeffersonians, please come out and join us. Coffee, water and donuts will be served.

Library News

The Friends Board of the Jefferson Carnegie Library is hosting a Potluck Dinner and End-of-Year Business meeting on Thursday, September 15th at 6:00pm. This is our opportunity to thank our wonderful “Friends” for helping us have another successful year at the library. Bring a covered dish to share.  Drinks will be provided.  You will hear about library renovations that are taking place and what’s in store for the 2022-2023 year.  We hope you can join us! 

Tractor Show

The 4th Annual Antique Tractor Show will be from 10a-2p September 17 in downtown Jefferson. The main streets in Jefferson will be closed to traffic to accommodate antique tractors, antique trucks, working and stationary antique engines. Swap meet vendors welcome.Event includes tractor parade, slow tractor race and lots of unique awards. Free admission to the public and exhibitors.

Barrel Racing

The Jefferson Livestock Association has announced their 2022 Barrel Race Schedule. Leadline begins at 7:30p then Youth, then Open, at the Jefferson rodeo arena, 18362 Hwy 49 East, Jefferson. Leadline/Peewee fee is $15, Youth $20 plus office charge, Open is $25 plus office charge. There is a $100 Added for Open with 80% payout (under 50 riders=3D, 50+ riders = 4D). Exhibition is $3 each or 4 for $10 from 5-7p. Events are scheduled for September 24, October 15, November 12, and December 3. Rodeo Time

It’s Rodeo Time in Marion County again as the Becca Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program holds their fall rode at 7:30 p.m. September 30 and October 1, at the rodeo arena, 18362 Hwy 49 East, Jefferson.

A life-sized replica of the Mosaic Sanctuary from the Old Testament is coming to Jefferson November 5-13. Tours can be reserved at www.messiahsmansion.com/jefferson.
