Ernie Foust

Ernest Leonard Foust Jr, better known as Mr. Ernie, the beloved “BBQ Man” passed away at age 91, Tuesday September 20, 2022, peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Ernie was born December 17, 1930, in Sweetwater, TX to Ernest Leonard Foust Sr and Eloise Allen Foust.

Mr. Ernie loved to cook and was in the BBQ business for 62 years, first in Fort Worth, TX and then in 1972 at Lake O’ The Pines, TX. He loved cooking T-bone steaks out on the grill, fishing, and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to have big fish fries and cook outs with family and friends. Mr. Ernie was featured by several radio programs, tv shows and in numerous newspaper articles. Mr. Ernie was cherished and loved by his Lake O’ The Pines community “Family” who will miss his generosity, kind spirit and his many sayings, “You ain’t a’woofin!”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Eloise, his wife Bobbie Lou Foust, son Jerry Lynn Foust and son Burl Glen Foust, his brother Billy Foust of Portland, OR, and his sisters, Nell Sawyer of Norfolk, VA, Geraldine Lynch of Jefferson, TX, Louise Rawlings of Sweetwater, TX, Betty Rawlings of Jefferson, TX and Ruby Fitzgerald of Abilene, TX. He is survived by his son Ernest Leonard Foust Ill of Jefferson, TX. Grandchildren, Jerry Lynn Foust Jr of Alba, TX and Kristy Diane Bush and husband Trent Bush of McKinney, TX. Great grandchildren Talon Bush and Kiley Bush of McKinney, TX and Mattie Foust of Alba, TX. and his sister Carol Peoples of Sweetwater, TX.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday October 15, 2022, at 2 o’clock p.m. at the Mims Chapel United Methodist Church,13714 FM 729, Avinger, TX 75630.
