Early Voting

Early voting continues today and again next week through November 4. Polls are open from 8a-5p at the Elections building, 504 N. Alley Street. The general election is Tuesday, November 8 from 7a-7p. Be sure and bring one form of acceptable Photo ID with you: Texas Drivers License, Election ID Certificate, Personal Identification Card, Handgun License, Military ID, Citizenship Certificate, Passport.

Burn Ban

Despite the recent rainfall and cooler temperatures, the Burn Ban continues to be in effect across Marion County.

Shoutout

The Jefferson Bulldog Band is “tremendously thankful for the group from Jefferson First Assembly!” the group came out and helped work the concession stand at last Friday’s Football game! Proceeds from concession stand sales go to the Jefferson Band Booster Club.

Last Dance

Jefferson’s Shady Ladies will have their last dances of the season on Friday and Saturday at Made in the Shade. The events raise money for Shriner’s Hospital in Shreveport.

APL

Animal Protection League will be in Jefferson from 10a-2p Monday, Oct. 31, at the corner of Henderson and Polk streets. Low cost vaccinations, meds and spay/neuter services are all available. Spay/Neuter requests must be made in advance via their website, www.aplspayneuter.org.

If you missed the Public Hearing/Forum last week, the City of Jefferson and Texas A&M still want your input on what’s needed in Jefferson. You can fill out a survey online at https://tinyurl.com/JeffersonTx Input is being taken until October 31.

155th Anniversary

Breakfast

The Mims VFD Ladies Auxiliary will start hosting a Tuesday Morning Breakfast, every Tuesday from 7-9a at the Mims Community Center on Hwy 729. A donation of $7 is requested and profits go to the Mims VFD.

COVID Education

St. Paul United Methodist Church, in partnership with UTTyler Fisch College of Pharmacy, will offer a COVID-19 Education and Awareness event from 3-7p November 2 at the church, Hwy 49 West next to the primary school. Healthcare professionals will be on hand to answer questions about fears or doubts about the vaccines. COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and Flu vaccines will also be available.

Fall Social

Women of Jefferson will be holding a Fall Social from 5-7p November 3 at the Black Swan, 201 W. Austin Street. The cost is $20 per person and covers entertainment, appetizers and complimentary beverages. Proceeds go to the Women of Jefferson Scholarship Fund. Honor Veterans

The Mims Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a Community Wide Breakfast/Brunch Buffet to honor our Veterans from 9a-noon November 5 at the Mims Community Center, 12728 FM 729. Veterans eat free. Other guests are encouraged to give a donation to support Mims VFD and EMS.

Wine Fest

Mosaic Sanctuary

A life-sized replica of the Mosaic Sanctuary from the Old Testament is coming to Jefferson November 5-13. Tours can be reserved at www.messiahsmansion.com/jefferson.

House Warming

The house warming for, Mary and Sammie Spearman will be at the old homestead on the Lake of the Pines/Lone Star Texas Sunday November 13, 2022 from 12-4pm. All are invited.

UFO Con

The First Texas UFO Con in Jefferson will be held on November 19 at the Jefferson Visitor’s Center. The new event, put on by Craig Woolheater of the Texas Bigfoot Conference, features speakers Mitchel Whitington, Nick Redfern, UFO Jane, Danie Alan Jones, Stephen Miles Lewis, George Jones, and a special Skyfishin’ nighttime event with Joey “UFO Magnet” George. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.com

BCN Hours

New hours have been posted for Big Cypress Nutrition on Vale Street in downtown. New Hours are:  Sunday 9-2; Monday Closed; Tuesday 7-3; Wednesday 7-3; Thursday 7-3; Friday 7-3; and Saturday 9-3. Y’all go by and see your Tea Slinger Kaylee Simmons.
