Catherine Jernigan Snelgrove went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 28, 2022. She loved Jesus, her family, and friends. She believed in the Lord and shared Jesus with others. She loved to read and study God’s word.
Catherine was born on November 4, 1942, to Earl V. Jernigan and Inetha Johnson in Huntsville, TX. She graduated from Huntsville High School. Catherine met the love of her life, Ricky Snelgrove, at Country Campus Baptist Church while attending Sam Houston State Teachers College. They were married August 24, 1963. Catherine received a Bachelor of Science in 1964.
Catherine began teaching at Jefferson High School. She taught Health and Physical Education and was a girls athletic coach. Catherine resigned from teaching after a few years to raise her family. She returned to teaching in 1980 and taught in the Special Education Department, teaching resource classes, and homebound students. She finished her career teaching homebound students. Catherine touched the lives of many while teaching.
Catherine loved serving her Lord Jesus and at the age 14, she began playing the piano at church and continued to play the piano throughout her life until she was physically unable. Although Catherine could play the piano, she could not sing. For those who know her well; she is finally singing on key!
She taught Sunday school for all ages. She was a Bible study leader. She also taught Girls in Action, Acteens, and Vacation Bible School. She was a charter member of Lake O’ Pines Baptist Church and is currently a member there. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson. She enjoyed teaching others about Jesus and the Bible.
These last few years, when Catherine was not physically able, she watched church services on TV. She would prepare for worship sitting dressed in her chair. She would sing the hymns and songs with worship teams. Catherine would quote and read the scripture with the TV pastors.
Catherine loved and prayed for her family, friends, and others. She gave great advice. She lived simply while sharing and helping others with her resources. She smiled and laughed and had a wonderful sense of humor. She often cooked meals for others. We loved her chocolate pie.
Catherine was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ricky Snelgrove; her parents, Earl Jernigan and Inetha Johnson; and her sister, Mary Ann Franklin.
