Jefferson’s final City Council meeting of the year was cancelled Tuesday afternoon after Mayor Rob Baker became aware there would not be able to form a quorum.
The agenda held mostly routine business items but also included the City’s appointment to the Marion County Appraisal Board which was requested to be completed by December 31 by Chief Appraiser Ann Lummus.
The agenda included a presentation by Wesley Traylor of Traylor and Associates on the City’s Texas Community Development Block Grant No. 7220211.
Council was also scheduled to have discussions on where to go next with the proposed Quiet Zone and the Comprehensive Strategic Plan.
All of those items will now have to wait.
Baker was set to talk about the upcoming City Council elections in May 2023 and the opportunity to file for a place on the Ballot will open January 18 and run through February 17. Three council seats will all be up for grabs next year
Also set to wait are building permits for Thomas Davis, Angie Hudson, and Susie May, as well as event applications for MLK parade (January), Battle for Jefferson (May), Woofstock Run/Walk Festival (May), and the Big Cypress Corvette Weekend (June). The formal acceptance of the resignation of Vincent Tucker from the Public Works Department will also be delayed.
According to sources, some of these items were received in time to have been on the first Tuesday of the month meeting which Council chose to discontinue in November. One building permit will have been waiting 35 days for approval from when it was received.
As of press time Baker indicated a special meeting will be called on January 3 to help move forward the delayed agenda items.
