Marion County Commissioners kicked off 2023 by swearing in newly elected officials at a meeting in the District Courtroom Tuesday morning.

Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt traveled over to Jefferson to swear in Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur.

LaFleur then had newly elected Pct. 4 Commissioner Gered Lee take the oaths of office and formally join the Court.

LaFleur also swore in newly elected County Treasurer Billie Jo “BJ” Westbook.

Pct. 2 Commissioner Jacob Pattison was absent due to illness and will take his oath of office at a later date.

County Clerk Kimberly Wise, District Clerk Susan Anderson, Pct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Weesner, and Pct 2 Justice of the Peace Alan Biddy were all sworn in at a private ceremony Sunday afternoon. The Jimplecute was not notified of the ceremony.

Commissioners will meet again at 9 a.m. today in the Commissioners Courtroom. Their agenda includes considering some 2023 Budget Amendments, selecting Rod Abbott to perform the 2022 year-end audit at a cost of $14,740, and appointing a board member to the Marion Central Appraisal District Board.
