TCU Outside Receiver Coach Malcolm Kelly, is the son of Marva Smith-Kelly, who attended Hall Community Elementary School and graduated from lefferson High School.
His father, Moses Kelly, is also an East Texas native who was raised in Henderson, Texas, and was graduated from West Rusk High School.
Malcom is also the grandson of the late Alphonso and Dorothy Smith of Jefferson.
Malcolm will help lead the TCU Horned Frogs in Monday’s NCAA College Football Championship against the Georgia Bulldogs.
TCU made history last week as the first Big 12 member to win a CFP contest after beating the Michigan Wolverines last Saturday 51-45.
The Horned Frogs totaled 488 yards of offense against a Michigan defense who entered the game allowing just 13 points and 277 yards per game.
Malcolm joined the TCU football staff as the Outside Receivers’ Coach in March 2019 after working as a graduate assistant at the University of Houston in 2017 before transitioning to an analyst position for the 2018 campaign.
He began his journey to becoming a collegiate coach when he worked in a quality control role at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2016.
Malcom grew up in Longview where he was a two-time First-Team All State selection for the Lobos.
He was a two time first-team All-Big 12 honoree and a 2005 Freshman All-American at OU where he totaled 144 receptions for 2,285 yards and 21 touchdowns in a short three seasons. He left the OU Sooners with 21 touchdown catches and nine career 100-yard receiving games. He tied a school record with 11 receptions as a sophomore versus Texas Tech in 2006.
Malcom was a wide receiver with the Washington Redskins for three seasons after being selected in the second round 2008 NFL draft.
He made 10 starts in 2009 and had 25 receptions for 347 yards.
After his NFL career Malcolm worked in the private sector before arriving at Texas A&M-Commerce.
TCU advances to the CFP National Championship against the Georgia Bulldogs in Los Angeles Monday, Jan. 9 at SoFi Stadium.
