Weather wreaks havoc…

Sunday’s storms contributed to an 18-wheeler accident on US 59 just south of Jefferson blocking traffic for several hours, far right. The storms produced large hail, right, across much of the county, and caused tree and limb damage. A tornado was spotted east of Jefferson but was moving away from the city. The City emergency siren was sounded by JPD Chief Tino Perez out of an “abundance of Caution.” The City and County use the Smart 911 system for emergency notifications to reach a broader range of residents than the siren. Signup is free at smart911.com and can be customized to a location. Notifications include text, voice, app and website.
