Loud Noise

There will be loud noises throughout the upcoming Pilgrimage weekend. Please keep your pets safely secured during the following times:

  • Friday, May 5 from 9-9:30p 
  • Saturday, May 6 from 10-11a  and 3-4p
  • Sunday, May 7 from 1-2p

Streets Close

Due to the Pilgrimage Parade and Street Skirmish we request the following streets be cleared of all vehicles by 6am on Saturday, May 6th, 2023: 

  • Austin Street – from Market to Polk (museum to courthouse)
  • Vale Street – from Lafayette to Dallas (Otstott Park to Back of Jefferson Hotel)

Voting

Saturday is the 2023 General Election for the City of Jefferson, Jefferson ISD School Board, and the Special Election to allow alcohol sales everywhere in JP Pct 1. Polls are open from 7a-7p.

Polling Locations are:

  • • Kellyville Sr Citizen Bldg., 130 Kelly Park Rd
  • • Marion County Election Bldg., 504 N Alley
  • • Smithland VFD-Community Meeting Room, 8247 Hwy 49 E
  • • Lone Oak Baptist Church, 120 Watts Rd

As of the close of Early Voting on Tuesday, 339 people had cast a ballot. 

VFW Fish Fry

The Jefferson chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their monthly First Saturday Fish Fry this weekend.  Set for 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation. Dessert will be available for $1. Lunch can be enjoyed dine-in or carryout from the Post at 1399 US-59, Jefferson. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post. 

Reunion

Interested descendants of John Milton Jones (1802-1883) and all allied families will meet at 2p Saturday, May 6, at the vacant lot on West Austin Street, across from the Jefferson Historical Museum, during Jefferson’s May Pilgrimage event. Look for the Jones signs.

Game Fest

The Longview Lobo Game Fest 2023 will take place at Foster Middle School from 10 am to 3 pm. May 6. The festival will feature a range of activities that cater to hardcore gamers, casual players, and those who are simply curious about the gaming industry.  Activities include: Vendor Hall, Hall of Gamers, Cosplay Contest, Student Showcase, Mock Gaming Classes, Breakout Sessions, and a Guilty Gear Strive Tournament (chance to win $1,000). 

Longview Lobo Game Fest 2023 is a family-friendly event that offers something for everyone. 

Hazard Help

Mark your calendars for the 2023 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Spring Webinar Series. Starting April 27th, FEMA experts will provide information and insights on building successful applications within HMGP as part of FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA). Yacht Club

The Longview Yacht Club will hold a Grand Reopening Extravaganza Event from 11a-3p May 20 at 131 Yacht Club Rd, Jefferson. There will be food trucks, kids station, raffle, sunset cruise/sailboat rides, new pier dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony. 

Farmers Market

The Mims Community Center 12728 Fm 729 north side of Lake O the Pines, is holding a farmers market every Saturday through spring growing season and early fall every Saturday from 10am to 2pm. $25 to reserve a space for the 2023 season. 

Edible and usable items preferred. Plants for spring gardening will lead off the start of this project with baked goods, fresh eggs and much more. For additional information, call 903-930-5104.
