A three vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of FM2208 and US59 claimed the lives of two people Monday morning.

First responders work to clear the scene of Monday mornings fatal accident.

Jazmine Nicole Griffin and Eddie Bell II both succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident which left a log truck overturned and a wrecked asphalt hauler.

A 5-year-old passenger in the vehicle with Griffin and Bell was unharmed and reunited with her grandmother.

Both truck drivers sustained minor injuries.

The north bound lanes of US59 were diverted through downtown Jefferson for most of the morning.

Details as to the cause of the accident are pending as Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating.

The families of Griffin and Bell both said the wanted to thank the various first responders and individuals who worked to keep everyone safe and for protecting the child. They spoke through their attorney Nick Testa.

A fund has been setup at First National Bank of Hughes Springs Jefferson Branch under the name of Jessica McDonald, Griffin’s mother, to help with arrangements.
