A new event drives into town this weekend as the 1st Annual Golf Cart Challenge hits the streets.
The event will kick off with a parade through downtown and some of the surrounding area. Carts will line-up on Walnut street near Austin street. Then they will go up Austin to Jackson, then to Lafayette, onto Polk, then down to Clarksville over to Walnut and then back at the starting point.
The parade will take place at 10:30a.m. Saturday.
Awards will be given for the “Best Decorated Cart,” “Best Paint Job,” and “Needs Work.”
Following the parade, participants will gather at 11:30a.m. at Lions Club Park for a Rally. The rally is similar to a scavenger hunt and will take carts through the Historic District and around town as they work to answer questions while getting a view of the city.
Prizes will be given for which team answers the most questions correctly.
The Jefferson Police Department will be on hand during registration Saturday morning at Lion’s Club Park, and will be inspecting carts to ensure they meet the City Golf Cart ordinance requirements and that all participants understand the city regulations.
A registration fee of $25 is required to participate and all proceeds will benefit a local Jefferson charity organization.
Local residents are encouraged to keep an eye out as there may be more than ususal golf carts on city streets this weekend.
