Heat Alert

Texas Division of Emergency Management wants to remind everyone that summer heat is here and safety precautions should be observed. Remember: Heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable; never leave people or pets in vehicles; and hydrate before going out into the heat.

Christmas in July

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce is holding “Christmas in July Bingo” this weekend. Shoppers go to each participating store and have their bingo card stamped. When the card is filled, they leave the card at the last store visited. A drawing for a Gift Basket will be held on July 22! 

Share & Sell

A great opportunity to clean out and clean up as SouthSide Chapel holds their Share & Sell Bazaar. The Clothes Closet will also have a free give-away of shoes and clothing (including children as well as adult sizes) and toiletries. Dollar (Hot) Dogs and refreshments available. This is an area wide event and everyone is welcome from 10am-4pm. SouthSide Chapel is located in west Marion County close to Lake O’ Pines at 1949 Pops Landing Road, just off Hwy. 450 and 3.5 miles east of Hwy. 259 in Ore City. Vendors are invited for indoor table/chair or a big outdoor spot with your tables/chairs/truck/trailer. Either space for or a suggested donation of 10% tithe on sales. Make crafts or sort out that garage or closet. Sell tools, décor, gifts, food, homemade items, furniture, antiques, garage sale items, sports gear, vehicles, your choice! Set-up will begin at 9am Saturday. Please call/text 903.256.0031 to reserve your indoor spot or for more information. 

Psalms Journey

Psalms Journey, Dallas’ premier Southern Gospel Group will be performing in Jefferson at 6 p.m. July 15 at Jefferson First Assembly. There will be a reception following the concert.

Fashion Show

The Women at the Well of Encouragement of Jefferson are hosting a “Fashion Show and Dinner Fundraiser” to aide our Children and Family Humanitarian Aide Programs. They are seeking Models of all ages, male and female to participate in a “Great Family Fun Event.” You are not required to be a Professional Model!  Please hurry and register soon! Fashion Show from 3-7p July 15 at Jefferson Visitors Center, 305 E Austin. Dinner will be served at 4pm. Tickets are $10 a person from 12years and up. Caddo Critters

Jefferson Carnegie Library’s Summer Reading program continues from 10-11a every Wednesday through July 26 at the Library. This year’s theme is Caddo Critters and teaches children about the wildlife of Caddo Lake and Big Cypress Bayou. For more information, contact the library at 903-665-8911.

Friends Meeting

The annual meeting of Friends of Lake O’the Pines will be at 6p July 20 at the USACE Project Office on FM726 near the dam. Exciting things are happening around the lake! Learn more about how you can take part and help them grow. The 501(c)(3) non-profit is in need of members, volunteers and board members in several different capacities, and with 2 events scheduled later this year, now is the perfect time to see how you can take part and have fun in the process! VBS

Heritage Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 6-8p July 24-27 for children ages 5 and up. The theme this year is “Camp Out.” For more information, contact the church at 903-665-8865.

Football

Football is only a few weeks away with the first scrimmage being August 11, and the first home game on August 24 (JV) and August 25 (V). The Jimplecute is again producing the Jefferson Athletic Booster Club Football Program so get your ad in early and support the JABC and Jefferson athletics. Bees

Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.

Farmers Market

  • • The Mims Community Center 12728 Fm 729 north side of Lake O the Pines, is pausing their farmers market until the early fall season. For additional information, call 903-930-5104.
  • The Historic Jefferson Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday through the end of October in the First National Bank parking lot in downtown Jefferson.
  • Jefferson Academy Marketplace is now open across from the old Napa store. They have yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, beans, herbs, and blackberries. All grown at the Academy.
