VFW Fish Fry

The Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars will resume their monthly Fish Fry on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. The lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation.  Dessert will be available for $1.  Lunch can be enjoyed dine-in or carryout.  Are donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post.  The Post’s building was damaged last month by fire, and the July event was cancelled. Come support the VFW as they get things started again!

Rodeo

The Becca Anderson Memorial Rodeo Royalty Contest is gearing up with the contest set for Sept. 23 and Rodeo Sept. 29-30. The age groups for the contest are Queen (16-20), Princess (10-15), and Jr. Princess (5-9). For more information and signup packet, contact the Becca Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program Facebook page. The rodeo will be on at 7:30p each night. $10 adults, $5 Kids 5-12, 5& under free. Raffle Tickets are also available for a Cabelos 4 Burner Grill & Griddle and a Cabelos 60 qt Polar Cap Equalizer Cooler

Garden Grants

Park Hosts

Bees

Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.

Farmers Market

  • • The Mims Community Center 12728 Fm 729 north side of Lake O’the Pines, is back open for the Fall and will run through early October. For additional information, call 903-930-5104.
  • The Historic Jefferson Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday through the end of October in the First National Bank parking lot in downtown Jefferson.
  • Jefferson Academy Marketplace is open across from the old Napa store. They have yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, beans, herbs, and blackberries. All grown at the Academy.
