Dear Editor:
I have been a conservative my whole life….and very happy with the way the governor has handled the immigration crisis…but shoving this school voucher program down the taxpayers throat is ludicrous. Thanks to the twenty one Republicans who joined the Democrats on the vote….mostly from the rural districts….our public schools and teachers need as much help as possible and these vouchers that take money from our public education system and reward at taxpayers expense a funding for private schools…sounds harmless..but let’s do the math…40,000 students that have left public schools get 10,500 dollars each…extended that is over 400 million dollars taken away from our public schools…should taxpayers pay for this?….and what is to stop others from participating in this nonsense and driving this figure way up…this is not a one time shot,it is annually….this governor along with Dan Patrick & Ken Paxton all need to be sent packing next election. I have always voted very conservative but it is time for a new sheriff in Texas

I agree with Mr. Burris of Avinger. The keyword he used was “welded” open. Our previous president had regular press conferences to keep us (and the media) informed. He walked out there with the wolves circling and faced them head on. (Never hid in the basement – before or after the election.) The current administration has failed by not adhering to and enforcing the legal pathway to immigration and citizenship. We as law abiding citizens do not deserve this. There is a legal, lawful process to become a citizen of the United States. I have been so blessed to work 50 years and pay into our system. It is frustrating to see our government allow an invasion of undocumented, unvetted illegals into the country that are not going through the legal, lawful process, and have never paid a dime into the system. And according to my friend the internet, they recieve[sic] cash/vouchers, phones, housing, access to the healthcare system, access to the education system, and a free ride to the city of their choice. I am all for helping people, but to keep our sovereignty i [sic] believe we should secure and protect our borders and take care of our own citizens first. No Malice intended, I Love this Country. Just my Opinion.
