County Commissioners will hold their final 2023 meeting at 9a today in the Commissioners Courtroom.

Most of today’s meeting includes regular end-of-year/beginning-of year tasks and contract establishment, but Commissioners will also hear a report from County AgriLife extension Agent Doug Weir on his accomplishments this year, and from the Cypress River Airport board. Commissioners will also have a rare executive/closed session to discuss, and then take action on real estate.

Items on their agenda  include:

• entering into the record continuing education hours for Tax Assessor/Collector Karen Jones

• ratifying the Regional Evaluation Services for Juveniles with ETCOG for 2024

• approving the 2024 mileage rate (up 1.5 cents from 2023)

• approving the salary ranges for County employees, including the SB22 Salary Supplement

• approving any end-of-year transfers/amendments from the Auditor

• approving the 2024 Marion County Employee Handbook

• lease renewal from Pitney Bowes for the Tax Office

• approving the Interlocal Agreement with the City of Jefferson for shared services

 • approving minutes, county finance reports, and county payments

On the agenda is a special presentation by Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur, for volunteer work provided to the County last June during the power outage.

The meeting also includes an opening prayer by Dr. J. Blair Blackburn, president of East Texas Baptist University, and the reciting of the Pledges to the American and Texas Flags.

Commissioners will meet again on January 8, 2024.
