Jefferson VFD members worked to contain and put out a fire which erupted late Tuesday evening at the Steamboat Inn on Marshall Street near downtown Jefferson. No one was injured in the fire, which damaged the back portion of the inn, but heavy smoke damage is throughout the building. Inn resident David McElhany said he was in the front of the house playing his guitar when a guest reported hearing a loud boom and smelled smoke. The Inn was on the Candlelight Tour of Homes this year. It will be closed until repairs can be made.
