VFW Fish Fry – cancelled

Note: we were notified on Friday that the fish fry has been cancelled this month.

The Jefferson chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their monthly First Saturday Fish Fry this weekend. Set for 11a–2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, at Christ Episcopal Church, lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation. Dessert will be available for $1. Are donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post.

MLK Banquet & Parade

MCDCSCO’s annual MLK Banquet will be held at 6p January 15 at the Jefferson Convention & Visitors Center. The keynote speaker is Dr. Cahndice Matthews, Professor Pennsylvania Western University – Clarion. 

The annual MLK Day parade will be on Sunday, January 14. Lineup will begin on Walnut Street

The annual MLK Day Youth Program will be at the Marion Community Center on Haywood Street, following the parade.

Bingo & BBQ

The Jefferson Carnegie Library will be hosting their Bingo Night and BBQ from 6-9p January 18 at the library. Tickets can be purchased at the library, but there are a limited number available, so get them early. Or more information, 903-65-8911. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Carnegie Library.

Career Fair

JISD is holding their first “Road to the Future” College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Fair from 5:30-7p January 25 at the High School Commons. The school is inviting local colleges, military personnel and businesses to participate. Breakfast

The Mims Community Center’s Tuesday Morning Breakfast by the Mims VFD Ladies Auxillary is back. The $8 donation draws a full breakfast of bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes, french toast, waffles, coffee and juice. Every Tuesday from 7-9a.

726 Bridge

The bridge at Copeland Creek on FM 726 in Harrison County is being replaced, according to plans awarded in August by the Texas Department of Transportation.

“During construction, the bridge will be closed, and traffic will be detoured,” said TxDOT Marshall Area Engineer Jacob Vise.

 Work began November 27, and should take about seven months to complete.
