Herbert Barham Kennon

June 2, 1933-January 26, 2024

Herbert Barham Kennon was born June 2, 1933, in Jefferson, Texas to Walter and Cornelia (McCoy) Kennon, who preceded him in death. He passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, joining his Savior Jesus Christ and his beloved wife of 64 years, Jane. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Robert Dow and Reba Mae Spidle; brother and sister-in-law Victor and Martha Kennedy; brother-in-law Royce Stewart, and son, Robert Dale Kennon (born 1956). 

He leaves behind his loving daughters, Karen Kennon Stone (born 1957) and Kathy Ann Kennon McHargue (born 1964); sister, Ann Stewart; brother and sister-in-law, William and Virginia Kennon of Avinger; four grandchildren, Sean Stone, Julie Bates and husband Jason, Tiffany Stone, and Scott McHargue; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Madilyn Bates, Ryelynn and Remington McHargue; nephews, Dave Stewart and wife Donna, Brian Kennon, Steven Kennedy and wife Tonia, Dan Kennedy and wife Shannon; nieces, Joyce Greer, Regina Kennon and Cindy Bell.

He was active in the high school band and participated in the Texas Boys State program. In 1951 he enlisted in the Texas National Guard Reserve. In 1953 he moved to Dallas, Texas to work with cousin, Alan Fry, in his pharmacy. On October 15, 1954, he married Reba Jane Spidle in Crockett, Texas, at the First Methodist Church. Not long after they married, he began night school at SMU to become a Certified Public Accountant. He worked at Davis Clark and Company for over 50 years where he was a partner at one time. 

 Herb and Jane lived in East Dallas and attended Munger Place Methodist Church for the first several years of their marriage. In 1956, they moved to Mesquite, Texas and attended White Rock Methodist for many years before transferring membership to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church (Mesquite) in 1969. He served on the church finance committee, led the youth, participated in several Christmas pageants, a long-time member of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce serving on several committees, volunteered with the Mesquite Balloon Festival and many other boards, an avid stamp collector for many years.

Herb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved his wife Jane dearly and worked hard to make certain that she was always cared for. He enjoyed his time with his three children where he enjoyed taking them on road trips. He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and attending their many events.
