Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players is planning a little “Jefferson Solar Eclipse Party Watch”on Monday, April 8 at the city’s Lions Park.

The group was intrigued with the spectacle of the “once in a lifetime event” and decided to treat the locals and visitors to a gathering to watch the eclipse as it unfolds over east Texas. Jefferson will likely get a good view of the eclipse from the more or less treeless park and proper glasses to watch will be available for at least 20 persons with a donation to the community theatre group.

It is also hoped that fresh-made popcorn will be available and maybe even a little food will be available to catch a light lunch from 11 am to 1 pm when the event begins to take place. Special music could also be played to accompany the celestial happenings according to a board member.

The group’s president, Marcia Thomas, said that several cities around the ArkLaTex are having similar events for their citizens and she thought that the Players would be the very right local group to do the same thing in a city that has seen many eclipses in its nearly 200 yr old history.

Everyone who wants to join the group are welcome to do so and bring your own glasses or chose from the twenty that will be available via donation. It is also suggested that those who attend may want to bring a lawn chair for viewing and visiting your neighbors.
