Mary Ann Miles passed away on February 26, 2024, in Nacogdoches, Texas, at the age of 76.
She was born May 31, 1947 in Jefferson, Texas to parents Hubert Bender Thornton and Patsy Gene O’Brien Thornton. Mary Ann graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. She worked 30 plus years at SFA in various departments eventually retiring as assistant to the Dean of Math and Sciences.
Mary Ann was a 20+ year breast cancer survivor and participated in the “Walk for the Cure”. She was a world traveler, an avid Ladyjacks supporter, and a Perritte Pie Crust Leader/volunteer. Mary Ann served as a Pink Lady for over 10 years in the gift shop at Medical Center Hospital. She was the 2005 Woman of the Year for University Professional Women at SFA, and received the President’s Achievement Award at SFA in 1998.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Howard Miles; son, Tommy Eugene Miles; brothers, Jim and John Thornton.
Survivors include: son, Howard Bender Miles and wife Kim; son, Tim Miles; granddaughter, Elizabeth Miles McBride and husband Justin; daughter-in-law, Danita West and husband Randy; sisters, Sue Sullivan and husband Lonnie and Patsy Chaler and husband Boo; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends, Friday, March 1, 2024, from 5- 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, Perritte Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery.
