Legends to take stage on Saturday

Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players will present the staged reading of a comedy in a specially arranged Dessert Theatre at Taste of Caddo Restaurant on Saturday, April 27, for one performance only at 7:30 pm.

According to theatre president, Marcia Thomas, the theatre is continually looking for locations to perform the few shows that the group produces each season and was directed to the new owners of the restaurant recently, Jeanette and Wayne Krohn.

The couple were intrigued with the idea of a staged reading at the restaurant and offered to let them use the extra-seating room for a performance.  Ms. Thomas further stated that the location fits right in with the script since chocolate brownies, a specialty of the restaurant, plays a prominent role in the comedy.

The play is called “Legends” and was a big hit around the country when it was presented with actresses Carol Channing and Mary Martin in the lead roles back in the 1980s.  It concerns two aging actresses of stage and film who now need, desperately, to go back to work.  A hard-boiled and conniving agent springs an idea to get them back together and soon sets up a visit with them and does so with interruptions of various unexpected visits and problems – some of which are hilariously a bit naughty.

Playing the actresses are Lisa Daye as Sylvia and Marcia Thomas as Leatrice.  Newcomer Hugh Lewis is taking the role of Klemmer and Angela Martinez plays Aretha.  Newcomer fo the Players stage is Atticus Gregory Upton Lewis who plays the role of “Boom-Boom” – enough said!

The stage crew is Kevin and Scott for lights and sound effects.

Tickets are $15 and will be available online at the theatre’s webpage and at the door.  Complimentary champagne and brownies will be served to ticket holders.
