Polls are open from 7a-7p at the County Elections Building on N. Alley Street. The only contested race is between Patricia Finstrom and Gary Amburn seeking the Mayor’s seat.

Strategic Plan
The City’s Strategic Plan meeting set for Thursday, May 2, has been canceled. The safety and well-being of all participants and the Texas A&M students is our top priority, and these weather conditions have made it necessary to take this precautionary step. A new date is pending.
Artist
Todd Camplin, artist, will have his studio at 501 Houston Street open Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, from 11 am to 5 pm. Please use side door.
VFW Fish Fry
The Jefferson chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their monthly First Saturday Fish Fry this weekend. Set for 11a–2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Christ Episcopal Church, lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation. Dessert will be available for $1. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post.
Dinner
The Mims Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Chicken Spaghetti Dinner from 5-7p May 2 at the Mims Community Center. Dinner includes Garlic Bread, Salad and Dessert and is available for dine-in or take out. . Proceeds benefit the Mim’s VFD and EMS.
City Hall Closed
City Hall offices will be closed on May 24 from 8a-1p due to a private event. The offices will reopen at 1p.
Combat Vets
The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association is sponsoring the 2024 Ark-La-ex Memorial Rally May 24-26 in Auntie Skinner’s in downtown Jefferson. There will be a live auction for a butchered steer, performances by Caleb Boles and Red Feather Tribe, and Loosey Anne Band, as well as bike games, and a fun run.
Bees
Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.
Trade Days
Jefferson Trade Days are starting up again next weekend on N. US 59 at the “old truck stop” just past Prospect Road. They are open the 2nd and 4th Friday and Saturday’s of each month from 9a-5p.

Farmers Market
The Jefferson Farmers Market is getting ready to open Memorial Day Weekend and are accepting applications for those wanting to participate. The Cost is $25 for the entire season.
