Watermelon Fest

The United Christian Alliance will host a Watermelon Festival starting at 6p August 24, at Mt. Ira Baptist Church, 1109 North Street, Jefferson. There will be food, games for all ages, arts, crafts, bounce houses, face painting and prize giveaways. The event is free and open to the public.

PTO Meets

The first Jefferson ISD PTO meeting will be 6:15p Monday,   at tje Jefferson Football Field House at W.F. Lockett Stadium.

Election of new officers, discuss future events for the year, and membership are on the agenda. 

Increased parent involvement is crucial for the continuation of Jefferson PTO.

GLCA

August 31st is the date for the Greater Caddo Lake Association’s annual fundraiser at The Point on Goose Prairie (formerly Crip’s) and will include a raffle, a bake sale, and fried fish dinners. The meal includes fried catfish fillets, coleslaw, fries, hush puppies, garnishes, a dessert and water or tea.  Plates are $20 and will be served from 11am until the food runs out. Banquet

The Annual Marion County Chamber of Commerce Banquet is set for 6p September 21 at the Jefferson Convention and Visitor’s Center. RSVP is required and Tickets are $25 for individual members and $35 for not yet members. Business members have tickets as a part of their membership. Outdoorsman

The 3rd Annual Outdoorsman Oasis will start at 5p Sept. 14 at the Jefferson Visitors and Convention Center. Guest speaker is Danny Tesseneer from Gardendale, Ala. The event is free and sponsored by Heritage Baptist Church.

Rodeo

The Becca Anderson Memorial Rodeo Queen Pageant is set for September 27-28 and now’s the time to signup! Applications are now available by contacting Samantha at 940-386-4065 or Susan at 903-930-8920. More information is also available on their Facebook page @Becca Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program. The deadline to register is September 15.

Autumn in Avinger

Avinger will be celebrating Autumn with their annual Autumn in Avinger festival from 10a-5p September 30 at #7 Main Street Education, Avinger. There will be shopping, food throught the day, and bingo starting at 5:30p.

Trade Days

Jefferson Trade Days are starting up again this weekend on N. US 59 at the “old truck stop” just past Prospect Road. They are open the 2nd and 4th Friday and Saturday’s of each month from 9a-5p.

Ducks Unlimited

Bible Study

Cumberland Presbyterian Church is hosting a weekly bible study every Wednesday night. The evening starts with a 6p supper, and bible study from 6:30-7:30p led by Shane Shaddix. All are welcome. The group is currently starting Book of Hebrews.

Bees

Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.

Farmers Market

The Jefferson Farmers Market is open and are accepting applications for those wanting to participate. The Cost is $25 for the entire season. They meet from 10a-2p every Saturday in downtown Jefferson just off Austin Street across from the Thomas Jefferson Park. APL

Animal Protection League will be in Jefferson at the corner of Henderson and Polk streets on August 31, and September 9. They offer low cost vaccinations as a walk-in, and spay/neuter services by appointment. Vaccinations are available from 10a-2p.
