The fifth annual Becca Anderson Memorial Rodeo is scheduled for September 27th & 28th, 7:30 pm nightly. The rodeo began in 2019 as a fundraiser for the scholarship program established in 2004 in Becca’s memory. The scholarship program continues to assist our local youth by providing funds towards dual credit courses in high school, college or trade school expenses.
In addition to the normal rodeo events, several activities for youth of all ages are scheduled. Stick horse races for kids 5 & under (no fee), mutton busting for those 8 & under ($15.00 fee) and kids’ calf scramble ages 10 & under. Signups, required for the stick horse race and mutton busting, will open at 6:45 pm both nights.
The most exciting event each year has been the scholarship team calf scramble wherein two-person teams compete to catch, halter and lead their calf into the winners’ circle. Up to five teams per night compete with the first two teams into the circle declared winners. Each winning team member receives $100.00 cash and a $300.00 scholarship. Age requirement is 14 to 18.
Cheridyn Bateman, the 17-year-old trick and fancy rider from Silver City, Oklahoma returns this year with more exciting acts. Since her last appearance in 2021, Cheridyn has mastered Roman riding and has recently included mounted shooting to her act.
The Red Dirt Riders drill team from Texarkana will be heading up the Grand Entry, presenting sponsor flags and showing off their riding expertise with their precision drills.
A rodeo is not complete without the rodeo clown and we’ve got one of the best! Preston Broxson the 2022 LRCA Contract Act of the Year, 3-time UPRA and 4-time LRCA nominated Contract Act of Year will be back to entertain the crowd. There’s no telling what he has up his sleeve so you certainly don’t want to miss this funny man!
