Rodeo

The Becca Anderson Memorial Rodeo Queen Pageant is set for September 27-28 and now’s the time to sign up! Applications are now available by contacting Samantha at 940-386-4065 or Susan at 903-930-8920. NNO

National Night Out is right around the corner and this year big changes are in the works to make the event even bigger and better! This year the event will take place starting at 5:30p  on October 1 at W.F. Lockett Stadium. The event relocated to the stadium to allow for better lighting and parking, as well as more participation. If you’d like to setup, contact Billy Ramsey at 903-665-0570, or the Jimplecute at 903-665-2462. Sponsorships are available via donations for drawings, or to support advertising for the event.

Grubbs Reunion

The 57th Annual Grubbs Reunion will be held on Sunday October 13 at Taste of Caddo, 201 West Austin Street, Jefferson, Texas, starting at 1p.  Please contact your family and encourage them to come join us.

Health Expo

St. Paul United Methodist Church, 111 Crawford St., is hosting a Community Health Expo from 11a-1p October 5 at the church. Partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, UTTyler, Texas HHS, and others, the event will have Healthly lifestyle demonstrations and education, Health Screenings for Adults, Immunization offerings, and Patient Navigation services.

Politics & Pastries

A political event hosted by the Marion County Democratic Party  from 9-10a October 5 at the   Jefferson Tourism Center.

Speakers will include Marlena Cooper- Candidate for State Representative HD7, Karen Jones-incumbent  candidate for Marion County Tax Assessor/Collector/Voter Resistrar. There will be volunteer opportunities, signs, and the ability to register to vote. Food and drinks provided from 1pm-4pm. Elections

In-Person early voting is set to begin October 21 across Texas. In Marion County, early voting is at the Elections Building on N. Alley Street, and at the Tax Office on Lafayette Street.

Autumn in Avinger

Avinger will be celebrating Autumn with their annual Autumn in Avinger festival from 10a-5p November 23 at #7 Main Street Education, Avinger. There will be shopping, food through out the day, and bingo starting at 5:30p.

Bible Study

Cumberland Presbyterian Church is hosting a weekly bible study every Wednesday night. The evening starts with a 6p supper, and bible study from 6:30-7:30p led by Shane Shaddix. All are welcome. The group is currently starting Book of Hebrews.

Bees

Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.

Farmers Market

Mims Farmers Market located at 12728 FM 729 North side of Lake O the Pines is back open for the Fall from 9a-Noon. It will stay open every Saturday until October 5.

Marion County Farmers Market, located on Austin Street, is open every Saturday through the end of October.
