Jefferson put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Pittsburg Pirates 40-15. Given the Bulldogs’ advantage in MaxPreps’ Texas football rankings (they are ranked 197th, while the Pirates are ranked 645th), the result wasn’t entirely unexpected.
Kamran Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. That high mark didn’t come from nowhere: he now rushed for 124 or more in the last 14 games he’s played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Tihmyus Taylor, who threw for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Jefferson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 265 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pittsburg only rushed for 167.
Despite the defeat, Pittsburg saw an underclassman step up: Camdyn Doddy picked up 60 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Pittsburg also got a significant boost from Jaylen Holloway, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Jefferson’s victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Pittsburg, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will face off against Gladewater at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
