Taste gets ‘taken out’

There won’t be a chance to get a “Taste of Jefferson” this year as the Marion County Chamber of Commerce announced they are postponing the annual October event.

During the Chamber banquet last weekend, acting board president Seth Buckner delivered the bad news.

“We currently have over 1,000 [people] interested on the FaceBook Invitation – so it could be the best one in a long time, or it could be cold, rainy, and stormy,” Buckner said. “It’s always a risk – a risk that we don’t feel we can take at this time, sadly. In addition to the upfront expense we would have to incur, we just don’t have the manpower at this time for a Sunday event. So, we will postpone it to a better time.”

A timeline was not provided for when the Chamber’s Board of Directors hopes to resume the event.

The annual event has been a fixture in downtown Jefferson for over 30 years and allowed attendees to get a “taste” of area restaurant’s offerings. The last couple of years vendors and live had been incorporated into the event to give it a more festival atmosphere.

Last year about 450-500 people attended the event.
