Arthur Wayman Moore

March 25, 1928-October 26, 2024

Arthur Wayman Moore was born on March 25, 1928, in Borger, Texas. Wayman passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the age of 96, surrounded by family. 

His parents, Harvey and Edith DeLisle Moore, were attempting to find employment in Borger during the onset of the 1929 Depression. The family moved back to East Texas and moved around East Texas, South Louisiana, Shreveport area and finally back to East Texas permanently, settling in the community of Lassater in 1935. He attended school in Lassater and Jefferson graduating high school in Jefferson in 1945. After high school he worked in the oil fields on drilling rigs for a year and then attended the Federal Business Institute in Tyler and went to work for Delta Drilling Company in their accounting department in Tyler.

Wayman married the love of his life, Rose Mary Wise in Jefferson on September 1, 1949. After being transferred to Jefferson in 1951, to work for Dan Lester Drilling Company and LeCuno Oil Company as corporate secretary and treasurer. In 1957, he resigned and opened Gulf Service Station and Pic-N-Pay Grocery and convenience store. In 1965, he got his real estate license and had Moore Land and Reality and Insurance Company until 1997.

Wayman was very active in community service, including JISD board member, Chamber of Commerce Board, Carnegie Library board, Jefferson Historical Museum board, F.A. Schluter Foundation, J.A.R. Moseley Foundation and was a member of the Jefferson Lions Club for over 50 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served on the Building and Finance Committees and was President of St. Vincent dePaul Jefferson Chapter. He and Rose Mary raised their ten children in the church.

Wayman and Rose Mary were married 72 years before she passed away in July 2021. He is also preceded in death by his two sons, David Mark Moore and Charles Michael Moore; grandson, Brian Bode; sister, Peggy Montgomery; brother, Jerry Moore and his parents.

Those left behind are daughter-in-law, Sondra Moore, daughters, Pam (Mike) Watts, Terri Moore, Anna (Cliff) Bode, Mollye Moore (Kris); sons, Pat (Robin), Robert (Penny Wren), Chris (Penny Lee) and Richard Moore; 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brother, Jimmy Moore and sisters, Karen Flanders and Linda Hall along with many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and Rosary at the Church at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church, Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
