The Jefferson Lady Dawg basketball team is starting the season off right with a 3-0 record, handily defeating McLeod, Elysian Fields, and Queen City, with double digit margins.
McLeod 48-19
The Dawgs crushed McLeod Longhorns 48-19 on November 5’s matchup.
Destiny Kelly (#3) led the team in scoring with 17 points, 1 Personal Foul, went 8-for-15, 1-for-5 in 3 pointers, and 3 rebounds.
Janna Goynes (#1) was right behind her though with 12 points, 2 personal Fouls, went 5 for 15, 1-for-6 in 3 pointers, 1-for-3 free throws, and 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Elysian Fields 78-13
The on court dominance continued November 8 as the Dawgs trounced the Yellowjackets 78-13.
Goynes led the team with 28 points, was 12-20 in shooting, 2-5 in 3 point attempts, 2-5 in free throws, had 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Jordyn Davidson (#2) was next with 11 points, was 4-10 in shooting, 2-5 in 3 pointers, 1-2 in freethrows, had 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. Kelly had 10 points, was 4-9 in shots, and was 1-2 for 3 pointers and free throws.
Other top scorers for the game included Keinysa Wallace (#5) with 9 points; Stormi McNeil (#10) had 8 points; Kaliyah Whitaker (#13) and Amirie Prior (#25) each had 4; Maniyah Huffman (#23) had 3; and Jazmyne Luster (#22) had 1.
Queen City 69-22
It wasn’t much of a Dawg fight as Jefferson sent Queen City scurrying home this week 69-22.
Top scorers for the Lady Dawgs included Goynes wtih 16 points, was 8-15 in shots, 0-4 in 3-pointers and free throws, and had 1 rebound and 4 assists. Davidson was right behind her with 15 points, 5-11 in shooting, 1-4 in 3-pointers, 4-4 in free throws, 6 rebounds and 11 assists. Kelly scored 13 points, going 6-10 in shots, 1-5 in 3-pointers, 0-6 in free throws, and had 3 rebounds. Rounding out the double digit scoring was Luster with 11 points, 4-6 shots, 2-3 3-pointers,1-2 free throws, and had 2 rebounds.
Other scorers were Whitaker with 6 points, and Wallace and McNeil each with 4 points.
The Lady Dawgs will face Atlanta Rabbits at 1p Saturday at home, and will play at Troup on November 19.
Boy Basketball
The boys will begin their season on November 19 against Pleasant Grove, starting at noon at home.
