Dorothy Mae Carter

November 22, 1931-April 26, 2025

Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Freeman Simpson Carter, 93, were held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11 am at First Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas with the Rev. Craig Evers officiating and under the direction of Haggard Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, Jefferson. A time of visitation was an hour before service starting at 10 am.

Mrs. Dorothy was born November 22, 1931, in Fisher, Louisiana, to Arthur Fulton and Ida Mae Goodman Freeman, and passed from this life surrounded by her loving family on April 26,2025, for her eternal reward in heaven. 

Mrs. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson, Gleaners Sunday School Class, and a Lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She spent many years in the banking business in Jefferson, retiring in 1996 after more than 30 years of service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, James Ray Simpson and Henry Carter, her son, James Ray Simpson Jr (Cowboy Jimmy), and brothers, James Freeman and Archie Freeman.

Those left to remember her legacy are her son, Stewart Simpson and wife Debby, daughters, Susan Collins and Becky Dicke and husband Rock. Grandchildren, Jason Bradley and wife Tasha, Sunny Hefler and husband Coby, Roger Burcham, and Brandi Scott. Great-Grandchildren, Alison Wagnor and husband James, Angie Stokes and husband Ty, Hunter Bradley, Fisher Bradley, Tanner Bradley, Cami Bradley, Jordan Burcham, Emily Puryear, Katie Puryear, Victoria Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as Pallbearers will be, Charles Freeman, Dennis Chambers, Mark Hickman, John Hyatt Jr, Shane Dickson, and Jason Bradley. With honorary Pallbearers being, Dennis Egburtson and Gregg Fraser.
