Riley to open OHTP show

A special treat for those attending the upcoming vintage fashion show, “Fashions With A Past”, is the pre-show performance of 15 yr old Riley Cox known in the area as Rockin’  Riley.  He will begin playing at 2:30 pm in the garden at Green Gables Bed and Breakfast on Lafayette Street. The the fashion show starts at 3 pm.

Visitors and locals are invited to the event which is being held as a fund-raiser for the community theatre group the Opera House Theatre Players now in their 36th season  Rockin’ Riley and his grandmother Dian Beaird, a long time actor and board member of the thespian group were the featured selection for the Lucille M. Terry Cultural and Performing Arts Award in this seasons brochure. They have participated in many productions with the Players and the group has acted as a mentor for the talented young musician since he was a small child.  His “tip” basket will be displayed for those that wish to donate to his college fund.

Fashions for the show will be from The Marcia Vintage Collection and cover periods of fashion from the 1880s to the 1980s and more.  Mens, womens and children’s clothes were collected over a period of decades by Marcia Thomas who is also the founder of the theatre and its longtime leader and director. Some widely recognized designers such as Bob Mackie and Bill Blass will likely be modeled by models from the East Texas area who recently worked in a show in nearby Marshall.  According to Ms. Thomas, a few surprises may also be on tap for the show.
