Courts approve plea deals

Juries were called, but not needed on June 2 as defendants chose to accept plea deals from the state and Judge Michael Kopech approved the offers.

“I’m always extremely grateful to the residents of Marion County who choose to do their civic duty and take time out of their day to answer the call and agree to serve on a jury,” Marion County District Attorney Tim Cariker said.

Pleas accepted were:

• Brandon Starr, Possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram, 8 years Texas Department of Corrections

• Ruben Rancour, Failure to Register, 6 years Texas Department of Corrections

The defendants were represented by Marion County Public Defender Craig Fletcher.

Judge Kopech also approved motions to revoke probation on June 4. 

The revocations included:

• Ernest Brown, Burglary of a Habitation, 6 years Texas Department of Corrections

• Ernest Brown, Possession of a Controlled Substance less than 1g, 12 months State Jail Facility

• Hailey Shaddix, Possession of a Controlled Substance less than 1g, 12 months State Jail Facility

• Erika Benson, Possession of a Controlled Substance less than 1g,14 months State Jail Facility

• Erika Benson, Child Endangerment, 14 months State Jail Facility
