County approves MCAD budget

Staff Reports

For the first time in a number of years, the Marion County Commissioners Court approved the Marion Central Appraisal District’s budget proposal.

In the past, Commissioners have denied the proposed budget citing salary discrepancies with the rest of the County, as the main reason.

This year, the proposed budget increased by 1.5% or $11,000 according to Chief Appraiser Ann Lummus.

The budget also followed the County’s lead and proposed a flat $2,000 raise to employees instead of a percentage raise. It also removed one position in favor of a contractor, thus lowering the payroll and benefits expenses.

The budget has to be approved by four of the six taxing entities. The City also approved the proposal this week.

In other business, Commissioners re-appointed Margie Smith to the Board of Trustees of Community Healthcore for a two-year term.

East Texas Council of Governments will continue to provide 9-1-1 database maintenance and provide the County with 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point Services for the next two years.

Lastly, Commissioners heard a presentation by Stanley Jacks of Envirotech Services about a product which is designed to help improve dirt roads into hard-surface roads.

The product costs about $6,000 per mile according to Jacks. Precinct 2 Commissioner Jacob Pattison offered to spend the funds for a demonstration of the product in the near future.
