BTS Giveaways

F.R.E.S.H. will hold their annual Back to School Giveawayfrom 4-7p Sunday, August 3, at the Marion County Community Center, 501 E. Haywood. There will be School Supplies, Backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles, food, drinks, games and raffles.

Hertiage Harmony

Heritage Baptist Church is hosting a 2-hour Christian Music event starting at 5p Saturday, August 2, at the church. Performers include Dennis Slayton, The Browning Family, Hannah Buckner, The Deloach Family, and the Buckner Girls. The event is open to the public.

Boat Races

Squirtin-in-the-Pines the annual Jet Boat races at Lake O’the Pines is this weekend! The race kicks off at noon and continues until 6p at Hurricane Creek Recreation Area. The event is free and open to the public.

APL

Animal Protection League will be in Jefferson from 10a-2p Monday, August 4, at the vacant lot next to Port Jefferson Outpost, 220 N Polk Street, with low-cost spay/neuter, and vaccinations. They are in Jefferson generally once a month. Future visit dates are:  August 25. BTS Bash

Lake O’the Pines Baptist Church is holding a Back to School Bash starting at 9:45a Sunday, August 10. Sunday School starts at 9:45, then Worship Services at 11a, followed by Lunch and Free School Supplies at Noon. Then Water Slides, snow cones and fun is from 1:30-4p. Church is located at 9046 FM 729, Avinger.

Prayer Walk

The Marion County Ministerial Alliance,will hold a Back-to-School Prayer Walk at 3p Sunday August 10.  The event will begin at the front door of all three JISD schools (Elementary School, 301 W. Harrison Street; Junior High School, 804 N. Alley Street; High School, 1 Bulldog Drive).  Participants will walk through the halls of each school to pray for the students, teachers, and staff.  The prayer walks at each school will happen simultaneously.  You can choose which school prayer walk you would like to attend.   

Master Naturalists

The Cypress Basin Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists is beginning a new training class August 15.  The required 40 hours of training is spread over 4 months, one weekend a month (Friday 6-9pm and Saturday 9-5).  Most classes will be held at the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Karnack.  Cost is $40 for an individual or $55 for a couple.  Being a Master Naturalist includes volunteering to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and areas in East Texas.  For more information, send inquiries to Caroline Hughes at cahughes8@gmail.com.  Deadline to register is August 1. 

Football Program

The Jefferson Athletic Booster Club is starting to sell ads for the 2025 Football Program. Both parent and business ads are available in the full color program book. All ads must be received and paid for by August 11. Ads will also be sold on August 12 for Meet the Bulldogs. For more information or to purchase an ad, contact the Booster Club. 

Bees

Honeybees are looking for their winter home. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.
