Staff Reports
Last Saturday, the Jefferson Cross Country Team kicked off the new season in Sulphur Springs, competing at the Annual Clay Minton Invitational hosted at Coleman Park—a challenging course that traditionally draws significant turnout.
This year’s meet served as the Bulldogs’ season opener and featured a massive field of over 70 teams across multiple divisions and more than 150 runners per division.
In the Varsity Girls 3200meter division, Senior Kayla Thomas and Junior Emma Rutz represented Jefferson with grace and grit. Meanwhile, the Varsity Boys 5000meter division lineup included Senior José Solorzano, Sophomores Leland Combs and Aiden Corbett, and Freshman Levi Corbett, all representing the Bulldogs with solid performances.
On the junior high front, the 3200meter divisions featured strong showings from eighth grader Shamani Ellis and seventh graders Cami Bradley, Gracie Hurst, and Simon Griffith. Special congratulations go to Cami Bradley with a time of 15:22, who earned a seventh place medal in her debut!
Looking ahead, the team’s next competition will take place in Gilmer on Saturday, marking another exciting early season meet on the schedule
