Our View: Demand Decorum from Everyone, or Not At All

Tuesday night’s City Council meeting looked more like a sketch from Saturday Night Live than a meeting of an august body.

There was name calling by someone making public comment which caused one Alderman to demand respect from the individual. JPD even moved closer, ready to escort the person out of the room.

Bravo. It was the right thing to do.

But, where was that same outrage when the Mayor started disrespecting other Aldermen and City employees?

Yep, once again they were yelling at each other; talking over each other; all but going to fisticuffs in front of a live audience.

One City employee was called a liar.  One Alderman said “I’m tired of your shit!”

It’s past time for this to stop.

They even wanted to adopt Roberts Rules of Order for meetings. Think this is allowed? They didn’t by the way.

Disagreement is fine, but not yelling at each other, and acting like children.

Decorum is for everyone. Censure the problem person and let’s move forward.
