Staff Reports
Jefferson High School art students have a chance to be recognized on a national level. This year, Jefferson was selected as one of 200 classrooms across the country to submit an entry in the Crosley Custom Cruiser Contest.
The contest, sponsored by Crosley, allows JHS Art 3 & 4 students to work on their own or with a partner to create a custom Crosley Cruiser Record Player by painting, drawing or more. Crosley is shipping a player to the school for students to design on.
According to JHS Art teacher Kaitlyn Cartwright, the students will first design a rough draft, then high school students will vote on the drafts to pick the school’s final submission. Then the design will be created, photos taken, and the entry submitted.
Once submitted, the public will be allowed to vote on the winner at Crosley’s website.
If the schools design is chosen, the school will win $2,500 and each student in the class will receive their own Crosley radio.
This year’s theme is “Band Together.” According to Crosley’s Website, “there’s something about music that connects us—even when nothing else does. Whether you’re shoulder to shoulder with strangers at a concert, sharing headphones with a friend, or signing along in a different language, music creates a feeling of unity that transcends distance and difference. That belief is at the heart of Crosley. This year we’re asking students to design a Cruiser that captures that connection. How does music bring people together—across genres, cultures, and lived experiences? How can a beat, a lyric, a sound become a safe space, a shared emotion, a common chord?”
Students have until October 17 to submit their entry. The top 5 public voting will be from November 3-7; bonus votes on November 9, and the regional winner announced on November 12, and grand prize winner on November 20.
The Jimplecute will publish the URL for voting when the time arrives.
